I’m tired and sick, and sick and tired of seeing web designers saying that they produce Google optimised websites: when so often they don’t. Many purport to be NZ SEO experts, or at least specialists in search engine optimisation.
Often with a two-minute check I see that their site isn’t optimised as well as it could be, sometimes not at all!
When it comes to competing in, say, the Olympic Games, we know the winners get the medals. There’s proof of their performance. We can see the result. When a woman is pregnant, she’s pregnant. She can’t be “ a bit pregnant”- she either is or isn’t.
The fact is either you’ve got clients that are in the top 10 on Google or you haven’t. If you have, where are they?
Now and again some of my clients choose not to take head of our advice and consequently they get the results they get. Those that do correctly search engine optimise their sites not only see an increase in traffic but consequently more inquiries and more business.
If you’re in the market for a new website, then don’t just take the web designer’s word. Ask to see sites that are ranked in the top 10 on Google. Our website comes up in the top 10 on Google for searches like “small business web design” amongst others.
Whilst it’s often easy to get a site to rank out of the box on local searches, be aware that in more competitive markets you will have to have links built from other sites to yours.
Google seems to be getting pickier all the time. I now suggest that my clients add their site to as many free search directories like Finda etc, as soon as their site goes live. Doing this speeds up your site showing in the organic rankings, and can boost your website above your competitors.
Don’t expect miracles from your new site; if your domain name is new then it can take a bit of time to get a site up the rankings because Google doesn’t trust a website that hasn’t been around long. The age of your website address i.e. your domain name, can affect your websites ranking
Buying an aged domain can be an advantage. This however is not a domain name that was bought some years ago, but a domain name that has been live on the web for sometime.
